FAQ — FavicoLab's Favicon Maker
Short answers to the most common questions about file types, limits, generated files, PWAs and privacy when using FavicoLab's Favicon Maker.
Which file types can I upload?
You can upload PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP and SVG. If Imagick isn’t available on the server, SVG uploads are rejected — in that case, convert your logo to a transparent PNG and upload that instead.
Are there size limits?
Yes. The max upload size is about 8 MB per file. For safety, images are capped at roughly 5000 px per side and around 20 MP total to avoid “image bomb” style uploads that could harm performance.
What files do I get?
The generator creates a favicon pack that typically includes:
• favicon.ico (16/32/48, when ICO support is available)
• PNGs at 16×16, 32×32, 180×180, 192×192, 512×512
• An optional site.webmanifest
• A README.txt file with ready-to-paste <link> tags.
How do I install the generated icons?
Upload all generated files to a folder on your site, for example /assets/img/favicons/, then paste the provided
<link> tags from the README into your site’s <head>. Finally, clear your browser cache and reload the page.
My browser still shows the old favicon. What now?
Favicons are heavily cached. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R), clear site data for your domain,
and optionally add a cache-busting query string such as ?v=2 to the favicon URLs.
Why didn’t an ICO file get generated?
ICO generation requires Imagick. If Imagick is missing or misconfigured, FavicoLab will still create PNG icons, but
favicon.ico won’t be included in the pack.
SVG upload fails — what can I do?
When Imagick is not installed or SVG is blocked by its policy.xml, SVG files cannot be rasterized.
Export your logo as a high-resolution transparent PNG and upload that version instead.
The icons look blurry — any tips?
Start with a crisp, square source image (for example 1024×1024). Simple shapes, high contrast and enough padding around your logo work best at small sizes like 16×16. Transparent PNG or a clean SVG source usually gives the best results.
Can I use the generated icons commercially?
Yes. FavicoLab is free to use for both personal and commercial projects. You are responsible for making sure you hold the rights to the logo or artwork you upload.
Does it work for PWAs?
Yes. When enabled, the generator adds a site.webmanifest that references 192×192 and 512×512 icons.
After uploading the files, include the manifest link in your <head> and test “Add to Home screen” on a mobile device.
Do you store my images?
Uploaded images are kept only as long as needed to build your favicon pack and ZIP file. Temporary files are cleaned up automatically after a short period. Always save your ZIP locally if you will need the icons again.
